Jul 13

So 11th Jul 2010 was a mad day for me. In preparation for the performance, I woke up really early for the makeup and the hair, which was kindly sponsored by Jit Huey from The Makeup Room. I have to say she’s the best makeup artist I’ve ever had!

And I’m happy to finally be able to use this birthday gift for a performance. For a good cause too!

I am thankful to each and everyone who came down specially to catch the performance and support this event (you know who you are!). As I’d said (in my facebook invite), I know at least 1 person with a kidney disease who had to undergo a kidney transplant, and I know how stressful and financially draining it is. It’s really heart-breaking though I’m not a victim of this disease. If you know someone with this disease, you’ll know how I feel. So thanks to the new NKF for inviting me to be a part of this very worthy cause!

Thank you!

Great to see this cute handsome boy (+ pretty mum) among the crowd! :)

Hairstylist Edward Tang prep for Compass dinner

After having a sumptuous lunch, I took a short break before going to GC saloon to have my hair touched up by Edward. He’s been my hairdresser for the past couple of years….he’s goooooood. If you wanna find him, he’s now at GC Saloon, Orchard Midpoint, #04-13 (Tel: 67333417). He’s the one to go to, especially if you have scalp problems (ok ignore the tatoo, he’s really a very nice man).

And then off I went to Compass dinner, which is the annual affair for all composers in Singapore. As spastic as it seems, I often hope that terrorists would not bomb the Swissotel on the day of our annual gathering because that would mean an instant disappearance of our local pool of composers/musicians. Ok, or so I’m mad.

The Eclectic Palate Party organised by Select Group is really cool; first off, I like the fact that it’s a boutique hotel, hence it’s furnishings are really unique and colourful. And from level 27, this is what we see:

From level 27 of Klapsons Hotel

Yes yes, I like it cos I seldom see this view! Check out the tiny containers!

We were invited to be the live band, and we brought on a fusion of English, Mandarin, French, Japanese songs for the guests who were savouring all the good food that evening…check this out:

And, other than performing with a full band setup (my fav), I really dig taking photos with these peeps:

I honestly have no idea why they feel the need to ruin the picture…… :D

And yes I love how my hair is bunned up, I think I’m gonna do this more often for my future gigs heh. All thanks to Anthony Hair Boutique the sponsor. Muack muack to Amanda at Tampines 1!!!anthony hair boutique

And this, is so breath-taking :)

Mar 23

22 Mar, exactly a month after my birthday is when I receive a couple of presents. But the wait was worth it…My crazy friends actually bought me (in partial… hence forcing me to pay the rest of it haha) a limited edition Taylor Swift baby guitar! Only 10 pieces in Spore so far…woooooooo…….I’m so happy! So we had this little jamming session at the resto after I’ve opened up the huge box…

22 Mar 10_Watami random play22 Mar 10_It's a nice guitar!

And Tienyao and Ein tested the guitar, and Joey even sang! :D We really terrorised the resto, even though we were already tucked at one corner far away from the rest of the patrons. Here’s a closeup of the guitar (you have to use a mirror to see the reflection for the words haha):

22 Mar 10_ See the details!?

I’m not a HUGE Taylor Swift fan…but I love watching her perform, and the love and simplicity she has for music. I love the fact that this guitar has the words ‘Love’, and ‘Fearless’ written on it. What great reminders, especially before a performance :)

And my dear French friend Dimitri sent me this CD, giving me such a fantastic surprise! I certainly didn’t ‘wait’ for this, so for the fact that I didn’t wait for it, the surprise is, SWEET. :)

The album is by Bénabar, titled ‘Infréquentable’. You may preview the music here.

Hello guys, so I’ve been slacking with my blog updates. Sometimes I just imagine I have already shared what I’d like to share, but of course, it was only imagination. This time round, it’s not laziness at work…many things happened and time just flew by….

My baby wedding-singing group A Little Dream had our AGM again on 30 Jan, nothing formal because AGM stands for Annual Gossiping Meeting afterall. I wish we had more moving space (cos the area was quite small), but it was still heart-warming to see so many of the musicians make time for this meetup.

ALD lunch 30 Jan 2010

Then….it’s the Chinese New Year celebration! It’s my favourite holidays of all year, mainly because I get to meet and catch up with some of my relatives….Well, Beanie is not a relative, but he is nonetheless quite family!

And yes..everybody’s been asking about my MV…well, some things happened and we decided to reshoot it. We might make it just in time for the 1st year anniversary of the album ha. But I want it good, it’s ok. At least we had a lot of fun heee:

MV reshoot 21 - 22 Feb

A lot of things have been delayed….if you believe in astrology, it’s because Mars turned retrograde during this period. Yes….I do believe in all these, haha! (It just turned direct recently, so yeah!)

We had this MV re-shoot on the eve of my birthday celebration. We didn’t quite sleep, hence by the time it was the birthday dinner, I was ZOMBIFIED. Nobody really seemed to notice, maybe because Cafe Iguana was sooooo dark. I’m so blessed to have this group of friends!

Birthday celeb @ Cafe Iguana

And then….the E-awards pre-show event “姜是本地辣” on 27 Feb 2010 @ Bugis Junction. Definitely an honour to be invited back to perform for the organisation after they awarded my EP album with “2009 Best Local Indie Album” last year. This category is so encouraging for the local music scene - not only do they root for fellow musicians who have already made it overseas, they are also showing support for many more of us who are really just trying to reach out to a wider audience. This time round, I played the piano and sing, and had Jixiang to back me on his guitar. I love it! The first thing to strike me when I arrive at the scene was, “Who are all these people with professional BIG and LONG camera lens?” I really don’t think all of them are from the media…how interesting. I’d really like to know!

The crowd...and the lensmen...

No.. idea... what.. I.. was.. doing....
Someone from Facebook took this photo of me….and I LOVE it. Mainly because I have NO…IDEA…just…what…I…was…doing….ha ha ha ha ha….!

And of course, I went overseas to record the French album of my dreams. But that’ll be another entry when I’ve more time. Going to watch Pink Martini’s concert now. Tata! :)

Dec 31

It’s always amazing how a year can fly by like this year had. It’s not a perfect year, but since nothing is perfect in this world, I thought yes - I definitely had a great 2009! To wrap 2009 up, let’s have 9 points:

9. I’m so happy to have more time to myself this year, be it meeting up with friends and family, getting to know new and interesting friends, or just have plain solitude.

8. I recognise that there are indeed weirdos in this world. And sometimes, you don’t have to seek explanations for why they exist. Maybe they’re here to make you stronger and wiser. So, smile :)

7. I want to surround myself with people who are always positive, open, and believe in me…  I think, real friends  don’t feel insecure and feel jealous of your success; real friends want you to climb higher even if you guys are using the same ladder. I’ve also come to believe that friends are not necessarily forever, because friendships need to be cultivated over time, as with any relationships.

6. I am open to competition and comparison, because I believe it’s good for my own inspirations. My biggest competitor will always be myself.

5. I actually crave for running these days. I even picked up skating. Evolution’s at work!

4. I’m thankful for the opportunity to release my 1st full-length album under S2S, and I can sense more exciting adventures coming up. And I really want to thank the local media for being so supportive so far. I can’t say enough thanks.  :)

3. One of my proudest 2009 moments has got to be performing @ APEC, to delegates  and ministers, Ms Hillary Clinton among one of them. Great materials for grandmother story!

2. My family @ A Little Dream just got bigger! Yeah!

1. Reading is so important to me nowadays, for knowledge, comfort, and pleasure. Here’s the latest book which inspired me, and I hope you’ll go get it!

How good you want to be

Have a smashing 2010 everyone!
Let’s step into the new year with a sense of humour - with my spoof :D

Xmas Dinner

Dec 10

You have no idea how much I slept over the past few days. :p

The whole trip was tiring, mainly cos I didn’t sleep well with the new pillow, plus the excitement of exploring the fantastic room @ the ParkRoyal hotel. One of the funnie things to share is, many Malaysians I came across asked if it was my 1st time to Malaysia; my answer was always “Well, my father is from Perak” : )

Once we reached, we checked into hotel, and I zoomed out after 10min of make-up and a change of clothes. It’s usually times like this when I feel grateful for my NCC training back in sec sch days (haha).  Then we zoomed off to One Utama for a radio show where I had to tape  a performance:

4 Dec - Gearing up for live performance for 98.8fm 4 Dec - With DJ May-zi!

All thanks to 98.8fm, DJ May-zi who readily agreed to have me on her program. This is actually a pre-recorded show, so if you’re in Malaysia, it’ll be aired on 26 Dec 09, 3pm on 98.8fm. Other than 4 songs from my album, I also sang 3 Christmas songs… :)  We even had a gift exchange heeeeeee:

4 Dec - Our Xmas gift exchange :)

Then the next day was a hectic one all over again with the preparation for the performance hosted by CD-Rama @ Summit @ 2pm! This is cool:

5 Dec

I was really very touched to see some fans holding my album in their hands when I was performing. All in all, I felt reeeeeeeally welcomed :)

5 Dec - performance @ Summit

They even did an autograph session for me!

5 Dec - autography session 5 Dec - the organising committee and staff from CD-Rama staff

Honestly I’m still getting used to all these…. as much as I appreciate, it’s still weird for me at times…

5 Dec - with Chia Bean fr CD-Rama @ backstage

After the performance, we had a late lunch, then zoomed off to the TV station TV3! It’s so cool…cos One fm is inside the tv station! Again, all thanks to DJ Jack for having me on his program. That actually was a very enjoyable radio interview. Maybe cos he’s also from Perak! :)

5 Dec - One fm with DJ Jack! 5 Dec - One fm. Yeah!

5 Dec - One fm with DJ Jack

And with that interview, my work in KL ended officially~! Heeeeeheeeee.

Then I went up to Genting to catch a joint concert by 4 divas - 潘越云,万芳,齐豫,黄小虎.

5 Dec - Divas' concert

At first I was a bit hesitant about catching this concert, but at this moment in time, I am so happy that I didn’t pass it. Of course I don’t know most of the songs, well except for 我是不是你最疼爱的人,橄榄树,分不到你的爱,家后,割爱,and … 新不了情. Actually, when I heard 万芳 sing 新不了情, I felt like I had come full circle. I remembered the times when I was in 木船 as a part-time singer; this song is a song most requested for, and probably most sung. To have this song in my album was a little dream come true, and to hear the original singer perform it with my own ears… I felt like a part of my life had rounded up nicely. :)

6 Dec - acting out in shop

Nov 26

All thanks to CD-Rama, I’ll be going to KL to do a performance to promote my album next weekend! Will also be doing a couple of radio shows (yeah!).

I recalled what Tienyao said to me over a dinner recently. It doesn’t matter what work anyone does, there’s always the challenge of getting something done, and the satisfaction after. Even for music. Preparing for a show is usually arduous and even, boring (cos it’s just practising and practising and practising); it’s only when you perform that the satisfaction happens. Yes, I suppose nobody lives in fairyland.

My reward will be that, and to head off to Genting after everything’s over! (And to finally try Malaysian food again heh). :)

If you’re in KL on 5 Dec, do drop by if you’re in the area:

I wanted to perform at OOOM since early part of 2009, and thanks to Jonathan’s patience, we finally managed to pin a month down with my hectic schedule. I totally ENJOYED myself last night. I dig the cosy intimate setting..people seated on the carpeted floor, many of them performers of their original songs before my turn. Here’s some photos taken by Dengli who’s back for holidays!
