Yeah, I’ve managed to rope in more musicians for the concert on 13 Aug!
Shawn Kok will be on percussion and Lim Hui and Lim Chun the endearing siblings have agreed to pull the strings for me! Incidentally, Lim Chun is the violinist who played La Vie En Rose in my album ![]()
And Vocare Media has agreed to be the official videographer. I’m so thankful, especially since my French performances at the Esplanade was untaped ![]()
We’ve counting down 2 weeks to the day. Pls help me to send this page or spread the news to your friends. And this is especially so if you’re unable to attend! ![]()
I’m so happy my new friend Jason (whom I got to know only last Thursday but come down armed with his pro camera to take pictures for me voluntarily), took this picture, because it means so much to me.
This French mademoiselle, who was among the audience on the 2nd evening, came up to congratulate me after the show, and told me she cried while I was singing ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas‘ - it reminded her of her past…I was shocked, and felt bad that the song made her cry.
If you’re interested to know why this is such a powerful song, click here:
I was elated that many people (from facebook or MySpace Music or 1003 listeners) came down to give support, I hope I did not disappoint. Jon Ang (on piano) and Jon Lim (on saxophone) worked wonders, and I am really blessed to get their help.
I also had some French friends coming all the way from Normandy, France, because their holidays coincided with this concert. I mean, HOW COOL IS THAT YOU TELL ME!!! I was actually more nervous the 2nd evening because there were more french people, and it was beyond my dreams to see some of them mouthing the lyrics with me.
It really is a dream come true for me, and I have to thank Sara from Esplanade for making this possible. And Tien-yao for lending me his videocam (whose batt died on me like before I can record 30min). ![]()
And I remember a gentleman unveiling a huge camera with lens fitted for paparazzi. If you see this, pls send me your photos to bevlynkhoo@yahoo.com. (Or anyone else who’s got nice pics to send me, pls do!)
This makes all my Sat MORNING french classes totally worth it.
I know it’s been a bit strange to have a concert half a year after my album was launched. Hmm. The story goes that I approached the UCC (University Cultural Centre) people in the early part of the year, and apparently they have arranged for programmes in March and April already, and in May it’s the exams, and June and July are the holidays. So, August it has to be.
Perhaps it’s a good thing. After the school shows, radio interviews/shows, reviews etc, it should all end well with a presentable concert, @ UCC! For people who have been asking me about a proper sit-down concert with album sales and autograph session, here it is! If you miss this, I don’t have any idea when the next one will be, seriously.
NUS is my alma mater, and it really feels good to be back there to perform ![]()
So Tienyao will be joining me too! Other than providing guitar and harmonica accompaniment, he will also be delivering his original songs. We will also be showcasing our new songs! Wooohoooo!
You can also get a sneak preview of “No problem”, a single by singer-songwriter Yet Dunhong, who will be launching his full-length album in September. Check him out here!
It’s gonna be relaxing, casual; we’ll share the inspirations behind our original works. And hey, we’ll do covers as well! Just RSVP and tell us what covers you wanna hear. We’re still open to suggestions!
You are welcome to join them if you are free that evening, It is entirely FOC, well except:
1. Pay for the transport to NUS UCC
2. Spare the time to be there early and grab a seat because it’s free-seating. Tickets are available 1 hour before the show at the ticketing counter.
3. Bring $13.90 to buy a copy (or 2) of Bevlyn’s album if you do not have 1 yet.
See you there on 13 Aug 08!
I’m helping another local musician, YET葉敦鴻, who is coming up with his very first DIY album very soon, to do some ‘advertising’. His online launch is on 20 July 08, and if you want to get a FREE CD single, just email him at noproblemyet@gmail.com.
To find out more about the soft launch, click here. You may find out more about him here.
It’s not easy to come up with an album in Singapore, do give him the support if you like his music!
We’re in talk to perform together in the near future, looking forward to that! (”,)
And hey, hope to see you at my 2-evening French gigs next Mon and Tue (715pm - 845pm) at the Esplanade. À Bientôt!
I think what’s unnerving was not only to have your hair shaved, but to be shaved by someone who has never used a shaver before. LOL. But everyone did it in good spirit, and that’s most important.
I wanna do this at least once this life. ![]()
Tmr when I see Ken, I’ll convince him to do a tattoo of 6 dots on the top of his head. :p
Please do tune in to 1003FM on 7 Jul 08 (Mon) from 10pm-11pm if you’re free! Tien-yao and I are back for our live acoustic sets every Mon. Do sms in to 97171003 to let us know what you think, or song requests, or dedications!

Jeff Wang, originally uploaded by bevlynkhoo.
Jiujian 大哥 invited me to perform at Soka’s Friendship concert last Saturday, and I was truly honoured. The hosts for the evening was Jiujian 大哥 himself, Limei (1003), 朱永钦大哥 , and Jeff Wang. And I was very happy to know that I’ve got a few old friends - Angeline, Samantha and Janice - whom I haven’t seen for AGES - among the audience.
After the show, they were lamenting about not being able to take a pic with Jeff. Then for some strange cosmic reason, Jeff drove by us at the carpark and waved goodbye to us through the open passenger window - i leapt up in an almost cartoonish fashion to signal we need a photo with him. He was so kind to actually stop the car, got out of the car, and pose.
Strictly speaking, I’m really not into into any religion. I believe in the Universe’s working, in the possibility of a God (actually I do pray, so I do believe in one most of the time), in positive energy, in…the Law of Attraction. I’m happy as long as you’re happy with however you attain and satisfy your own spiritual needs. Life’s really too short to be fighting over God.
Eat Pray Love has this passage, and I found myself amazed:
“…I think about religion, most of it is same-same”
“Not everybody thinks so, Ketut. Some people like to argue about God.”
“Not necessary,”he said. “I have good idea, for if you meet some person different religion and he want to make argument about God. My idea is, you listen to everything this man say about God. Never argue about God with him. Best thing to say is, ‘I agree with you,’ Then you go home, pray what you want. This is my idea for people to have peace about religion”
Wow, how is that!
Btw, I love paragraph 5-6 of what the author Elizabeth Gilbert wrote. This is kinda random, but I think it’s worth sharing.
I love this photo that Juliet took for me. We watched Sex and the city together, and inspired by Miranda, Juliet suggested we do this act. LOL.
YUM!
After a month’s rest, I am ready to swing again!
To kick off the later half of the year (can’t believe we’re in the 2nd half of 2008 already), I’m doing a all-French-songs gig that I’m very proud to be involved in. Finally the money I’ve casted towards Alliance Française is coming to good use:
Details:
Date: 21 & 22 July 08 (Mon & Tue)
Time: (Set 1) 715pm - 745pm, (Set 2) 815pm - 845pm
Venue: Concourse, Esplanade
Indicate your attendance here:

I’m performing with 2 Jonathans - Jonathan Ang on piano and Jonathan Lim on saxophone. Rest assured that each song will be explained properly in English before it is performed. Definitely I’ll be singing La Vie En Rose…and more! (”,)
Do drop by if you would like to experience something French - this is less expensive than fois gras, in fact it is FOC! Hope to see you there!
My photographer-friend Gabriel Mendes introduced to me the movie ‘ONCE’ in Mar, relentlessly bugged me to watch it, but I only just finished watching it. Starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the indie movie was filmed in Ireland. And yes, I love the movie. First of all is the storyline of course, it’s a story about a street musician who got to know a girl, who happened to also be a musician. I love the fact that there’s a little lingering romance there. The duo has very strong and good onscreen music chemistry. Anyway, the plot is about Hansard and Irgolva’s journey to making a demotape to be passed to a record company in London. And the songs happened to really be Glen Hansard’s songs!
How cool is that, tell me?
I got the chills when they played their first song together, which reminded me of why I love performing live so much. I love the harmony lines. I like the ideas behind the songs. I love the fact that Hansard kept to his old broken guitar (even when they do the touring post-movie!!) - it’s always about the player, not the instrument. I love the fact that *warning: spoilers ahead*, the lingering romance is there, and yet both are adult enough to not screw things up; basically they understood that love is free to give - you can give and yet not possess. Trailer if you’re interested:
The song I love best here.
And their Oscar moment:
